The Sindh government has sanctioned the acquisition of 1,000 more pink electric scooters dedicated to women, aiming to enhance affordable and gender-sensitive public transportation options.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who also oversees the transport and mass transit departments, highlighted ongoing efforts to broaden the province’s mass transit infrastructure. This includes plans to launch inter-city People’s Bus Services connecting districts such as Larkana, Dadu, Sehwan, Hyderabad, and Sanghar, thereby boosting regional connectivity.

In a significant development, Memon announced the introduction of additional electric and double-decker buses in Karachi to improve urban mobility. New bus routes between Khairpur and Rohri, as well as Khairpur and Ranipur, are scheduled to commence next week.

These updates were shared during a meeting of the provincial transport and mass transit department, chaired by Memon and attended by senior officials including the transport secretary and the managing director of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority. The session reviewed ongoing and upcoming transport projects, focusing on expanding bus services, distributing pink electric scooters, and launching electric taxi services.

Officials confirmed that more buses would be deployed in Karachi in the near future to enhance commuting options for residents. Memon instructed authorities to promptly address registration challenges related to the pink electric scooters.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering women by providing safe, dignified, and eco-friendly transport solutions. The integration of electric buses, hybrid systems, and scooters not only supports environmental sustainability but also offers economic advantages.

Overall, the transport network across Sindh, including Karachi, is undergoing gradual modernization with a particular focus on benefiting women, students, and daily commuters.
