Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that Pakistan has established itself as a crucial force for peace by facilitating historic direct talks between the United States and Iran, marking the first such dialogue in nearly 50 years. The breakthrough discussions took place in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, culminating in a ceasefire agreement that ended decades of diplomatic deadlock.

Addressing the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference on Wednesday, the Prime Minister emphasized that bringing Washington and Tehran together after a diplomatic freeze since 1979 reflects the unprecedented confidence the global community now places in Pakistan. He expressed gratitude to both nations for opting for dialogue over confrontation, framing the event as a major contribution to regional stability.

The conference also honored key figures who played vital roles in advancing peace. Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, received the titles “Leader of Peace” and “Greatest Victorious General of the Century” in recognition of his strategic efforts to promote stability within the Muslim Ummah. Prime Minister Sharif praised the collaborative efforts of Field Marshal Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for skillfully managing the complex diplomatic negotiations that led to the Islamabad talks.

Extending its focus beyond Pakistan, the forum named Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the “Global Personality of 2025.” The Crown Prince was recognized for his significant contributions to defense cooperation and his role in fostering unity across the Muslim world. The Prime Minister reiterated that safeguarding the Harmain Sharifain remains a core element of Pakistan’s religious commitment and foreign policy.

In addition to the US-Iran breakthrough, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast and principled support for the independence of Palestine and Kashmir. He was joined by Palestinian dignitaries, including Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who acknowledged Pakistan’s consistent advocacy on these issues at the international level.

Sharif called on religious scholars to leverage their influence to combat sectarianism and strengthen national unity, emphasizing that cohesion is Pakistan’s strongest defense against both internal and external threats.

Looking forward, the conference organizers announced that the seventh edition of the summit will take place in March 2027. In a significant move to promote interfaith harmony, invitations will be extended to a broad spectrum of global spiritual leaders, including the Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and the Pope. This initiative highlights Islamabad’s growing ambition to serve as a lasting bridge between diverse faiths and conflicting geopolitical blocs.
