Bushra Bibi, spouse of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was transferred back to Adiala jail on Wednesday following a medical check-up at the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi. The move came after she underwent a scheduled follow-up examination of her eye, which had been operated on April 17 at the same hospital.
Notably, periodic eye examinations have been conducted within the jail premises since her surgery. The former first lady had the operation last month after reporting vision problems in her right eye. This prompted the jail authorities to arrange an urgent consultation with ophthalmology experts.
She was initially taken to the hospital on April 16 after doctors diagnosed a retinal detachment and recommended immediate surgery. With her consent, the procedure was performed by Dr. Nadeem Qureshi and a medical team. After spending the night at the hospital, Bushra Bibi was discharged and returned to Adiala jail.
Currently, she is serving a seven-year sentence related to a £190 million corruption case. In a significant development, she was also sentenced in December 2025 to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-2 case, which involves the under-priced acquisition of luxury state gifts.
