Pakistan Warns Water Weaponisation as Act of Aggression Against Nation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has issued a stern warning that any attempt to weaponise water resources will be regarded as an act of aggression against Pakistan. He emphasized that the country retains the right to protect its national interests in line with international law.

In his remarks, Ishaq Dar also referenced a precise and proportionate military operation conducted by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) targeting Indian military installations. The damage inflicted on Indian assets during this operation has been thoroughly documented. He noted that the events of May underscored the necessity of coordinated peace efforts to ensure regional stability.

The deputy prime minister expressed gratitude to the nations that supported Pakistan during the US–Iran peace negotiations, describing their involvement as a significant diplomatic contribution towards regional stability.

Addressing ongoing regional tensions, he condemned India’s use of force following the Pulwama attack in February 2019 as unlawful. He further recalled that prior to April 2025, Pakistan had observed Indian threats concerning the Indus Waters Treaty and warned that any aggression related to this treaty would be met with a strong response, as demonstrated during Operation Marka-e-Haq in 2025.

Ishaq Dar also criticized India’s persistent reliance on extremist ideological narratives, which he said threaten peace and stability in the region.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s role as a responsible member of the United Nations, he stressed the country’s commitment to supporting global peace initiatives. He highlighted that lasting peace is crucial for economic stability, even as the Kashmir dispute remains unresolved.

He further pointed to Pakistan’s constructive participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the deepening partnership with China through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and ongoing engagement with the European Union.

Regarding the Middle East, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding support for Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

Finally, he underscored Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating the early April talks between the United States and Iran, highlighting Islamabad’s key role in bringing the two sides together after decades of strained relations.
