US Intel: Iran’s Nuclear Development Timeline Remains Unchanged Amid Conflict

US intelligence assessments indicate that Iran’s nuclear capabilities have not experienced significant delays despite the ongoing conflict. Analysts estimate that Tehran’s timeline to develop a nuclear weapon remains roughly nine months to one year if it chooses to pursue such an option, consistent with last year’s projections.

The current conflict, which began under former US President Donald Trump partly to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions, has primarily targeted conventional military infrastructure rather than nuclear facilities. While Israel has conducted strikes on some nuclear-related sites, US operations have largely focused on degrading Iran’s broader military and defense assets.

Experts note that substantially delaying Iran’s nuclear progress would require neutralizing its stockpile of highly enriched uranium (HEU), much of which remains unaccounted for. The International Atomic Energy Agency estimates that Iran possesses enough nuclear material to produce up to ten weapons if further enriched.

Although earlier attacks on key sites such as Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan temporarily set back Iran’s nuclear program, recent military actions appear to have had limited additional impact. This is partly attributed to the fact that remaining nuclear materials are stored in deeply buried, hard-to-reach locations.

Tensions continue to run high despite an April ceasefire, with Iran disrupting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to a global energy supply crunch.

Meanwhile, US officials reaffirm that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a top priority. Discussions about more aggressive measures, including efforts to recover nuclear materials, are reportedly ongoing.

In a significant development, Israeli operations targeting Iranian nuclear scientists may impede Iran’s technical capabilities, although the core scientific knowledge appears to remain intact.

Iran consistently denies any intention to develop nuclear weapons, insisting its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.
