Ex-Nebraska Coach Admits Relationship in Ashley Scoggin Lawsuit Deposition

A federal lawsuit involving Ashley Scoggin has taken a significant turn after former University of Nebraska assistant coach Chuck Love admitted under oath to having a sexual relationship with her. This revelation came during a deposition in February 2026, contradicting his earlier denials in court documents.

At the heart of the case are allegations that Scoggin was groomed by Love, who held a position of authority over her. Scoggin initially filed the lawsuit in February 2024, accusing both Love and the university of misconduct. She claims that despite being a starting player in every game during the 2022 season, she was removed from the team following an incident on a road trip, while Love faced no consequences.

The university has denied any wrongdoing, attributing her dismissal to issues of “dishonesty and distrust” within the team. After leaving Nebraska, Scoggin transferred to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she completed her final collegiate season.

In a notable development, Scoggin expanded her complaint in 2026 to include two university officials, alleging failures in due process and violations of Title IX. The complaint details an alleged scheme by teammates to expose the relationship during a hotel stay before a February 2022 game against Penn State. It describes how individuals accessed Love’s room and recorded video footage to confirm suspicions. While the university stated she was found alone, the complaint asserts she was discovered under the covers.

Scoggin’s legal team contends that the university did not conduct a fair investigation but instead subjected her to an intense internal inquiry in front of teammates and staff. She alleges feeling pressured to hide the relationship due to the power imbalance and fear of being blamed.

The lawsuit seeks damages for emotional distress, loss of her position on the team, and violations of her civil rights. No trial date has been set as the case continues to unfold.
