An armed confrontation occurred outside the Al-Subh Academy in Jhelum Cantt on Sunday morning, involving an attempted attack aimed at religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza. The incident unfolded around 10:45 AM when an unidentified gunman fired shots at the academy’s main entrance.
Security personnel stationed at the academy promptly retaliated, engaging the attacker and fatally shooting him at the scene. The identity of the assailant remains unknown as authorities continue efforts to confirm his details.
During the exchange, a police officer named Ahsan Kayani was wounded by gunfire. Despite sustaining a severe leg injury, with a bone nearly fractured, Officer Kayani courageously confronted the attacker, blocking his advance and ultimately neutralizing the threat. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
The academy administration noted that Sunday sessions usually draw between 150 and 200 attendees. Fortunately, no students, staff, or visitors inside the premises were harmed, thanks to the swift and effective response of the security team.
Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the motive behind the attack and to determine if the gunman had any accomplices involved in the plot.
