In a distressing episode of animal cruelty, a cow grazing in the Langar Sarai area of Muzaffargarh district, Punjab, was attacked by unidentified individuals who severed half of its tongue using a sharp-edged weapon. The incident, which has shocked local residents, was reported to authorities on Saturday, sparking an immediate police response.

The Punjab Livestock Department conducted a medical examination and confirmed that the cow’s tongue had been partially cut off, severely impairing the animal’s ability to eat. The owner, Umar Hayat, expressed deep concern over the cow’s condition, explaining that the injury has rendered the animal unable to consume fodder. He further revealed that his goats had been targeted in previous attacks by unknown perpetrators, urging authorities to take stringent measures against those responsible.

In a significant development, the Saddar police station registered a case under the Animal Act based on the complaint filed by Hayat. Law enforcement officials have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits behind this cruel act. This case adds to a growing number of reports from various regions across the country, where animals have suffered similar brutalities, including tongue severing and limb breakages.

Such incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger enforcement of animal protection laws and increased awareness about animal welfare. Meanwhile, local communities and animal rights advocates continue to call for justice and preventive action to curb this disturbing trend of violence against animals in rural and urban areas alike.
