Actor Ruby Rose has come forward with allegations accusing pop star Katy Perry of sexual assault, claiming the incident occurred almost two decades ago. Perry has firmly denied the accusations, labeling them as “dangerous” and “reckless lies.”
Rose revealed the details in a series of posts on Threads dated April 12, stating the alleged assault took place at a nightclub in Melbourne when she was in her early twenties. She expressed that it took her nearly twenty years to publicly share her experience, highlighting the profound and lasting impact of trauma on survivors.
Rose, the incident happened at the Spice Market nightclub in a public setting, with multiple witnesses present. She also indicated that she possesses evidence and suggested that Perry would not pursue legal action because the event occurred openly and was witnessed by others.
In response, a representative for Perry categorically rejected the claims, describing them as false and dangerous. The statement also referenced Rose’s history of making allegations against others that were denied.
Rose further disclosed that she had visited a police station to inquire about the possibility of an investigation into her assault claims, acknowledging that some incidents might be beyond the statute of limitations. She confirmed that the reporting process in Australia had been “ok.”
She also reflected on the challenges of speaking out about abuse involving female perpetrators, noting it can be significantly harder than addressing male offenders. Initially, Rose emphasized that her priority was to speak publicly rather than to file a formal complaint.
This allegation has reignited scrutiny of previous claims involving Perry. In 2019, actor Josh Kloss accused Perry of misconduct related to her ‘Teenage Dream’ music video. Additionally, Georgian TV presenter Tina Kandelaki alleged inappropriate behavior by Perry at an industry event. In 2018, during an American Idol audition, Perry kissed contestant Benjamin Glaze without warning; he later said he felt uncomfortable but did not classify it as sexual harassment. Perry has not directly addressed these earlier accusations, stating she did not want to detract from the broader #MeToo movement.
Ruby Rose, known for roles in Batwoman and films such as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and John Wick: Chapter 2, has previously raised concerns about workplace conditions following her departure from the CW series in 2020. Warner Bros. disputed those claims at the time, citing issues with workplace behavior.
As of now, the latest allegation remains unproven, and no official investigation has been confirmed.
