Sunderland Condemns Racist Abuse of Brobbey After Tottenham Win

Sunderland Football Club has strongly condemned the racist abuse targeted at striker Brian Brobbey following their 1-0 Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Brobbey was involved in a crucial moment during the match when Tottenham captain Cristian Romero collided with his own goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky while under pressure from the Sunderland forward. Romero was visibly upset and had to leave the field in tears, while Kinsky finished the game with a heavily bandaged head.

In a firm statement, Sunderland expressed full support for Brobbey, emphasizing their solidarity with the player. The club also highlighted that this was not an isolated incident, noting that teammates Romaine Mundle and Lutsharel Geertruida have faced similar online abuse in recent weeks. Sunderland has reported the matter to the Premier League, relevant social media platforms, and the police, demanding prompt action against those responsible.

Following the win, Sunderland moved up to 10th place in the league standings and are set to face fourth-placed Aston Villa in their next fixture on Sunday.

In a significant development from Ghana, the Ghana Football Association announced the death of Premier League footballer Dominic Frimpong after armed robbers attacked his team while returning from an away match on Sunday. Berekum Chelsea FC revealed that masked assailants armed with guns and assault rifles opened fire on the team bus, forcing players to seek refuge in nearby bushes.

The robbery took place around 10:30 pm local time on the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District of the Ashanti region. Police confirmed that Frimpong sustained gunshot injuries and later died in hospital during treatment. Another victim, George Owusu Afriyie, aged 52, was robbed of 4,500 cedis (approximately $408).

The Ghana Football Association described the incident as tragic and a significant loss not only to Berekum Chelsea but to Ghanaian football overall. They praised Frimpong as a promising young talent whose dedication and passion reflected the spirit of the league. The 20-year-old forward had joined Berekum Chelsea FC on loan from Aduana Stars FC earlier this year, appearing in 13 matches and scoring two goals.
