WhatsApp is developing a new feature for its web platform that will enable users to customize their chat interface with a wide selection of themes. Currently in the testing phase, this update could introduce close to 50 different desktop themes for WhatsApp Web, allowing users to personalize message bubble colors and background wallpapers.
Historically, WhatsApp Web has offered limited customization compared to the mobile app, which already provides options to change chat backgrounds and colors. The web version primarily supports essential functions such as messaging, voice and video calls, and multi-device synchronization.
In a significant development, the upcoming themes will allow users to assign unique visual styles to individual chats. This means different contacts or group conversations could have distinct layouts, enhancing the personalization experience. Notably, these changes will only affect the user’s own interface and will not alter how chats appear to other participants.
Meta Platforms has been steadily enhancing WhatsApp’s cross-platform functionality to create a more unified experience across mobile, desktop, and web versions. While the exact public release date for this feature remains uncertain, it is expected to debut initially in a beta phase before becoming widely available.
