Sacramento Kings Confirm Doug Christie as Head Coach for 2026–27 Season

The Sacramento Kings have confirmed that Doug Christie will remain at the helm as head coach for the upcoming 2026–27 NBA season. Christie, who is currently in the first year of a three-year deal signed on May 1, is set to continue leading the team with two more years guaranteed at an annual salary of approximately $2 million. This decision comes as the Kings look to build stability within their coaching staff despite a challenging season.

Christie’s journey to the head coaching role began on December 27, 2024, when he was named interim head coach following the dismissal of Mike Brown. The interim label was eventually removed once Christie secured the full contract, signaling the organization’s confidence in his leadership. However, the Kings have faced significant difficulties this season, entering the final day of the regular schedule with a disappointing 22–59 record. This places them tied for the lowest standing in the Western Conference and among the league’s bottom teams overall.

Before transitioning to coaching, Christie had a notable playing career, including five seasons as a guard with the Kings. Over 15 years in the NBA, he appeared in 355 games for Sacramento, averaging 10.6 points, 4.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. His familiarity with the franchise and experience on the court have been valuable as he navigates the challenges of coaching a struggling team. To date, his coaching record with Sacramento stands at 49 wins and 83 losses.

As the Kings prepare for the next season, retaining Christie reflects their commitment to continuity and development despite recent setbacks. The organization will be looking to improve their performance and climb the standings under his guidance in the years ahead.
