Rockstar Games Confirms Data Breach Amid ShinyHunters Threats

Rockstar Games has acknowledged a data breach involving its cloud servers after the hacker collective ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for infiltrating the company’s systems. The group, known for targeting prominent firms such as Microsoft, Google, and Ticketmaster, issued a final ultimatum to Rockstar, demanding payment or threatening to release stolen data.

ShinyHunters posted a warning on their website, setting a deadline of April 14 for Rockstar to respond, or else they would disclose the compromised information, potentially causing significant digital disruptions. However, the group did not clarify the exact nature of the data accessed during the breach.

In response, Rockstar Games confirmed the incident, describing it as a third-party data breach that resulted in access to a limited amount of non-sensitive company information. The publisher emphasized that the breach did not affect its operations or impact players in any way.

Notably, this is not Rockstar’s first encounter with cyberattacks. In 2022, the company suffered a major hack that exposed extensive gameplay footage and assets from Grand Theft Auto VI. That breach led to legal consequences for one of the perpetrators, an 18-year-old member of the Lapsus$ hacking group, who was sentenced to indefinite hospitalization.
