PlayStation has introduced an exciting initiative for its dedicated community with the launch of the Playerbase program. This unique opportunity allows one fortunate fan to be immortalized as a permanent in-game character in Gran Turismo 7.
Applications for the program opened on April 7, 2026, with the winner set to be announced during the summer of 2026. This initiative marks a significant milestone, celebrating over three decades of PlayStation’s legacy. Sony Interactive Entertainment will employ cutting-edge 3D capture technology to scan the winner’s likeness, transforming it into a detailed character within the game.
The chosen fan will gain lasting recognition in Gran Turismo 7, appearing as a limited-time character portrait akin to other non-playable characters featured throughout the racing experience. Additionally, the winner will collaborate with a designer to craft a bespoke Fantasy Logo and a unique vehicle livery, both of which will be permanently added to the Showcase menu.
In a notable development, the grand prize also includes an all-expenses-paid trip for the winner and a guest to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles, where the 3D scanning process will take place. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be at least 18 years old and hold a valid PlayStation Network account. Interested fans can submit their applications via the official website by providing a written statement explaining their personal connection to the PlayStation brand.
The selection process unfolds in two stages. The initial round assesses originality, relevance to PlayStation fandom, and the depth of the applicant’s connection to the brand. Finalists will then undergo video interviews designed to evaluate their authenticity, storytelling skills, and ability to represent the PlayStation community before the final winner is chosen.
Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing, emphasized that the Playerbase program serves as a gesture of appreciation toward the players who have helped shape PlayStation’s identity. Polyphony Digital views this as a chance to infuse their flagship racing title with genuine fan enthusiasm.
Looking ahead, Sony revealed that the Playerbase initiative will extend beyond Gran Turismo 7, encompassing other PlayStation Studios titles in the near future. These expansions will introduce tailored fan integration features suited to the distinct styles of each game. The program will be available in select global markets and does not require any purchase to participate.
