Eric Kripke Shares Fears Over Bold Season 5 Twist in ‘The Boys’

Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, has opened up about his apprehensions regarding a daring decision made in the fifth season. He admitted feeling uneasy about the early elimination of the speedster A-Train, portrayed by Jessie T. Usher. This shocking event occurs at the beginning of the final season, with Homelander himself responsible for the killing, following A-Train’s betrayal.

Kripke revealed that he was initially reluctant to remove such a key character so soon. He explained that there was an alternate storyline in development exploring A-Train’s whereabouts and potential assistance to The Boys, indicating that the character’s death was originally planned for a later episode, possibly episode three.

However, the writing team strongly advocated for the early death, pushing Kripke to embrace the show’s hallmark element of unpredictability. The writers argued that if the showrunner claimed no character was safe, then a major character needed to be killed off immediately to establish that tone for the season.

Kripke acknowledged their point, stating that this approach would keep viewers on edge throughout the season. He described the writers’ insistence as a compelling argument that ultimately convinced him to proceed with the bold move.

In a significant development for fans, the third episode of the final season is scheduled to be released on April 15.
