The Sindh Health Department has issued a public alert following the confirmation of a mpox case in Karachi, emphasizing the need for vigilance without causing alarm. The infected individual is a 20-year-old resident of the Buffer Zone area who began showing symptoms on April 2, 2026, including high fever, headache, and a distinctive rash.

Subsequent PCR testing at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on April 8, 2026, confirmed the presence of the mpox virus. The patient has been admitted to an isolation ward at the Sindh Institute of Infectious Diseases (SIDH), where medical officials report his condition as stable.

Authorities have also identified close contacts, including the patient’s parents and a cousin, who are currently under close medical observation. To date, none of these family members have exhibited any symptoms associated with mpox.

In a significant development, Sindh Director Dr. Asif Syed has directed the formation of a special investigation team led by Dr. Shankar. This team is tasked with tracing the source and mode of transmission of the virus to prevent further spread.

The health department has urged the public to remain alert, adhere to recommended precautions, and promptly seek medical care at government hospitals if they experience symptoms such as high fever or unusual skin rashes.
