Punjab Achieves Record Grade 8 Results in First AI-Marked Exams

The Punjab government has announced unprecedented results for the 2026 Grade 8 examinations, which were the province’s first to be entirely assessed using artificial intelligence. This marked a significant advancement as the exams were 100 percent machine-marked, setting a new standard in educational assessment.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the results, describing them as a landmark achievement in the ongoing modernization of Punjab’s education system. Nearly one million students participated in these exams, achieving an overall pass rate of 88 percent—the highest ever recorded in the province.

Notably, the results highlighted a gender disparity, with female students outperforming their male counterparts. The pass rate for girls was 92 percent, while boys achieved an 83 percent pass rate. This gap underscores the growing academic success among female students in the region.

Students are able to view their results starting from 3 PM via the official online portal managed by the Punjab Examination Commission. This digital access aims to streamline result dissemination and enhance transparency.

Maryam Nawaz attributed this success to the diligent efforts of students, the commitment of educators, and the support provided by parents. She reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to improving educational outcomes, promoting transparency through technological integration, and expanding equitable learning opportunities throughout Punjab.

Officials emphasize that the introduction of AI-based marking is expected to improve fairness and efficiency in the evaluation process. This shift represents a major transformation in how academic performance is assessed on a large scale, promising a more objective and consistent grading system moving forward.
