Heavy Rain Hits Punjab and KP, More Showers Expected Nationwide

Intermittent heavy rainfall persisted across the city on Tuesday, flooding numerous low-lying neighborhoods and disrupting daily activities. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional showers in the coming hours.

Officials recorded approximately 29 millimeters of rain so far. Water accumulated in several low-lying localities including Gulberg, Saddar Bazaar, Railway Road, Dean’s Chowk, Nothia, and Gulbahar, creating challenges for both commuters and residents.

The Met Office predicts that rain will continue not only in Peshawar but also across most of the province’s plains. In higher altitude areas, snowfall is expected over mountainous regions, indicating a widespread weather system impacting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Heavy rain has been ongoing since the previous night in Shabqadar and nearby areas, bringing cooler weather but also raising concerns about potential damage to wheat crops due to the extended rainfall.

Meanwhile, rainfall has spread across various parts of Punjab, affecting major motorways such as M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-11, as well as national highways connecting cities like Lahore, Multan, Khanewal, and Bahawalpur.

Syed Imran Ahmed, a spokesperson for the motorway police, stated that weather conditions remain cloudy with rain at multiple locations. He urged drivers to exercise caution, maintain safe distances, and avoid sudden braking to prevent accidents.

In Lahore, the city stayed overcast with cool winds, and light rain was expected intermittently throughout the day. Temperatures ranged from a low of 17°C to a high near 25°C.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds was reported in Liaquatpur, causing power outages after several feeders tripped. Similar conditions were observed in Chishtian, where low-lying areas were flooded and electricity supply was disrupted.

In Islamabad, heavy rainfall affected various sectors, lowering temperatures and creating a more pleasant atmosphere. However, the downpour led to water accumulation in several low-lying areas, raising concerns about urban flooding and traffic slowdowns.

Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant, especially while traveling, as wet roads and reduced visibility continue to pose risks across multiple regions.
