Angel Reese Traded to Atlanta Dream in Major WNBA Deal

Angel Reese, a prominent player in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), has been traded to the Atlanta Dream, confirmed on Monday. Reese, who has played two seasons in the league, is a two-time All-Star and received MVP votes as a rookie.

The Chicago Sky, Reese’s former team, agreed to the trade despite her strong performances. The deal involved the Sky sending Reese along with the right to swap second-round picks in 2028 to the Dream. In return, Chicago acquired Atlanta’s first-round draft picks for both 2027 and 2028.

The Sky expressed their appreciation for Reese’s contributions during her tenure with the team. Known by the nickname “Chi Barbie,” Reese played college basketball for the Maryland Terrapins and LSU Tigers before entering the WNBA.

As a rookie, Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, achievements that earned her a spot in the All-Star Game, second place in Rookie of the Year voting, and MVP consideration. However, her career has also been marked by controversy, including a suspension for half a game.

Prior to her suspension, Reese made candid remarks about the need for improvement, stating, “I’m not settling for the same s*** we did this year,” and emphasizing the importance of acquiring top-tier players. She later apologized, clarifying that her comments were not intended to criticize her teammates.

Additionally, Reese faced a one-game suspension after accumulating her eighth technical foul during the regular season, as mandated by WNBA regulations.
