Selena Gomez recently tackled a viral conspiracy theory suggesting she has been cloned. The Rare Beauty founder participated in a comedic video filmed at the Rare Beauty office, which poked fun at the ongoing debate about her identity. The clip was shared by TikTok personality Micky Cash Flow, who played a fictionalized version of herself as Gomez’s new assistant.
During the video, Micky humorously reads from a to-do list during a meeting with the “Hands to Myself” singer, mentioning “foundation casting” and cryptically adding, “something about calling a clone. I don’t know, could ignore that.” Gomez’s puzzled response, “Okay?” highlights the absurdity of the rumor.
Though the video might seem authentic at first, it is a scripted comedy sketch showcasing both Gomez’s and Micky’s acting skills. The humor culminates with Gomez firing Micky for her poor assistant performance. This playful approach comes amid widespread social media speculation claiming Gomez was replaced by a clone, a theory that has gained traction particularly in comments on actress Emilia Pérez’s Instagram posts.
The origins of these cloning rumors remain unclear, but many supporters cite perceived changes in Gomez’s appearance over time as supposed proof of replacement. Gomez has openly discussed the transformations she has experienced. In a profile with Allure last year, she revealed, “I’ve dealt with a lot of weight issues in my life, and that’s something I’m very sensitive to,” explaining that these changes were linked to medical challenges she faced.
She was diagnosed with lupus in 2013, and the medications for this condition have caused fluctuations in her weight. Gomez has also addressed rumors about cosmetic surgery, firmly denying extensive procedures. After facing intense scrutiny, she stated on social media, “Honestly I hate this. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”
Additionally, Gomez recently responded to questions about changes in her voice during an Instagram livestream. Initially hesitant, she admitted, “Sometimes things happen. I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all,” dismissing the speculation with a candid explanation.
