Since March 25, intense rainfall has led to the deaths of at least 45 individuals and injuries to 105 others across various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The fatalities resulted primarily from the collapse of roofs and walls amid the severe weather conditions.

Among those who lost their lives, 23 were children, 17 men, and five women. The injured include 45 men, 16 women, and 44 children. The heavy rains have caused damage to 442 houses, with 382 sustaining partial damage and 60 completely destroyed.

The affected areas span a wide range of districts, including Bannu, Abbottabad, Mardan, Bajaur, Hangu, Mohmand, Kohat, North Waziristan, Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Shangla, Battagram, Lower Kohistan, Mansehra, Torghar, Swat, Upper Dir, Charsadda, Buner, Malakand, Lower Dir, Orakzai, South Waziristan, and Tank.

In a significant development, the PDMA continues coordination with Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other relevant agencies to facilitate ongoing relief operations. Aid materials have been dispatched to the hardest-hit districts, and local authorities have been instructed to expedite relief efforts and provide immediate assistance to those affected.

Meanwhile, the PDMA has issued a warning about another anticipated spell of rain from April 6 to 9. The public has been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially to vulnerable tourist locations, and to adhere strictly to official safety advisories. The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Centre remains fully operational, encouraging citizens to report emergencies or seek information through the toll-free helpline 1700.
