Motorway Police Deny Theft of Surveillance Cameras on Sukkur-Multan Route

The motorway police spokesperson, Syed Imran Ahmad, firmly dismissed recent allegations regarding the theft of advanced surveillance cameras and related equipment along the Sukkur-Multan section of the motorway in Sindh. He emphasized that these claims were unfounded and misleading.

In a detailed statement, Ahmad clarified that the ITS surveillance cameras installed on this stretch were deliberately removed by the responsible administrative authorities themselves. This action was taken by the “One Network” administration in December 2023, citing security and administrative considerations as the primary reasons behind the decision.

He further explained that the reports circulating in the media are inaccurately portraying an old administrative measure as a recent criminal incident, which is not supported by facts. The spokesperson reassured the public that despite the removal of these cameras, there are alternative and effective surveillance arrangements currently in place to monitor the motorway and ensure safety.

This rebuttal came in response to a report alleging that sophisticated surveillance and speed cameras, along with solar panels, lighting fixtures, and poles installed over nearly 200 kilometers of the Sukkur-Multan motorway, were stolen by dacoits operating in the katcha (riverine) areas. The police have categorically denied these claims, emphasizing the administrative nature of the camera removal and the ongoing commitment to motorway security.
