Meryl Streep to Star in Netflix’s Adaptation of ‘The Corrections’

Meryl Streep is set to star in a major Netflix adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s acclaimed novel The Corrections. The 76-year-old Oscar-winning actress will portray Enid Lambert, the resolute matriarch central to the story. This project, announced by Netflix on April 2, represents another significant television role for Streep as she continues to broaden her distinguished career.

Originally published in 2001, The Corrections became a literary sensation, reaching the top of The New York Times bestseller list and earning the National Book Award for Fiction. The narrative centers on Enid’s efforts to bring her fragmented family together for one final Christmas, while her husband Alfred battles Parkinson’s disease. Their three adult children—Gary, Chip, and Denise—each face their own personal challenges, adding emotional complexity to the family reunion.

In a significant development, the series will be directed by Oscar winner Cord Jefferson, known for his work on Watchmen and American Fiction. Jonathan Franzen himself is involved in writing the screenplay, ensuring the adaptation remains true to the original novel. Streep will also take on the role of executive producer, joining Jefferson and producers Nicole Clemens, Paul Lee, and Mark Roybal in overseeing the project.

While the release date for the series has yet to be announced, anticipation is high for this prestigious collaboration between Netflix and some of the industry’s most respected talents.
