Australia to Tour Zimbabwe for Three ODIs in September After Nearly a Decade

Australia is set to tour Zimbabwe in September for a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series, marking their first visit to the African nation since 2014. This upcoming tour holds significant importance as Zimbabwe, alongside South Africa and Namibia, is scheduled to co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The series will offer the Australian team an opportunity to acclimatize to local conditions ahead of the major tournament.

All three ODI matches are slated to take place at the Harare Sports Club between September 15 and 20. This venue has historically been a key ground for Zimbabwean cricket and will serve as a crucial battleground for both teams to test their skills and strategies. The series is expected to be highly competitive, providing valuable international exposure for Zimbabwe’s cricket squad.

In a significant development, Zimbabwe Cricket’s Managing Director Givemore Makoni expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Australia back to Zimbabwe. He emphasized that hosting a team of Australia’s calibre is essential for the growth and development of Zimbabwean cricket. Makoni also highlighted the importance of this series as part of Zimbabwe’s preparations for the 2027 World Cup, which will be a landmark event for the country and the region.

Notably, Zimbabwe recently secured a memorable victory over Australia by 23 runs during the T20 World Cup match held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, earlier this year. This win has added confidence to the Zimbabwean side as they prepare to face the Australians again on home soil. The upcoming ODI series promises to be an exciting contest and a vital step in the buildup to the global tournament in 2027.
