Colby Donaldson Shockingly Voted Out on Birthday in Survivor 50

Colby Donaldson’s comeback on Survivor concluded in a surprising fashion when he was voted out on his birthday during one of the season’s most tumultuous episodes. The 52-year-old veteran contestant was eliminated in the two-hour “Blood Moon” installment, which included a rare triple elimination immediately following the highly anticipated merge.

That night, three players—Kamilla Karthigesu, Genevieve Mushaluk, and Donaldson—were sent home, with Donaldson’s departure standing out as the most poignant moment. The episode’s unique format divided contestants into separate tribal councils, removing players’ control just as alliances were shifting dramatically.

Donaldson entered the vote at a significant disadvantage, having sustained a foot injury in a recent challenge and previously losing his voting power. With no vote and limited mobility, his ability to influence the outcome was severely restricted, making him an easy target as the game reset post-merge.

Notably, Donaldson is more than just a contestant; he is one of Survivor’s original icons, having finished as runner-up in 2001 and played a key role in shaping the show’s early years. However, the evolution of the game has meant that experience alone no longer guarantees safety. As newer players gained control, Donaldson’s position rapidly deteriorated.

Being voted out on his birthday added emotional depth to his exit. Holding back tears, he expressed, “My heart is full, and I have nothing but appreciation, humility and gratitude.” While Kamilla Karthigesu and Genevieve Mushaluk were also eliminated that night, it was Donaldson’s exit that defined the episode.

For a player who helped establish Survivor’s legacy, this milestone 50th season ended not with a triumphant return but as a stark reminder of how much the game has transformed over the years.
