Punjab Schools Adopt Four-Day Week with New Timings from April 2024

The Punjab Education Department has introduced a significant change to the academic calendar by implementing a four-day school week across the province. This new schedule mandates that all educational institutions, including both public and private schools, will now remain closed every Friday. The decision aims to streamline school operations and provide a uniform timetable for students and staff.

Under the revised schedule, regular school hours will be set from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for schools operating a single shift. This adjustment is designed to optimize the learning environment while ensuring that students have adequate time for extracurricular activities and rest. Meanwhile, schools that function on a double-shift basis will follow a slightly different timetable to accommodate their operational needs.

For institutions with double shifts, the morning session will end at 12:30 p.m., and the afternoon session will commence at 1:00 p.m., continuing until 5:30 p.m. This staggered approach allows schools with larger student populations to manage resources effectively while maintaining consistent educational standards. The structured shift system is expected to enhance the overall efficiency of school management across Punjab.

In a significant development, education authorities have emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the new schedule. Schools have been instructed to ensure full compliance to facilitate a smooth transition and to standardize educational practices throughout the province. This move reflects ongoing efforts to improve the quality and consistency of education in Punjab.
