Karachi to Experience Rain and Strong Winds Starting April 1

Rain is expected to begin in Karachi on the night of April 1, with the likelihood of showers increasing on April 2 as a westerly weather system moves into Balochistan from Iran. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that rainfall could continue in Karachi on April 3, with some areas possibly receiving 50mm or more.

Strong winds are also anticipated to accompany this system, with speeds potentially reaching 50 kilometres per hour or higher. The weather pattern is predicted to affect the country until at least April 4.

In a recent advisory, the PMD highlighted the possibility of widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across much of Pakistan from April 1 to 4. The westerly wave is expected to enter southwestern Balochistan before gradually spreading to nearly all provinces over the subsequent days.

Sindh province, including cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, is forecasted to be among the last regions impacted. These areas may experience rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms between April 2 and April 4.

The Met Office cautioned about serious secondary effects during this period, noting that windstorms and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, electrical infrastructure, billboards, and solar panels. Additionally, standing crops in Sindh and other provinces might face threats from hail and strong winds.

Daytime temperatures across the country are expected to drop noticeably throughout this weather event. The PMD advised the public, tourists, and travelers to remain cautious and avoid non-essential travel during this time.

Officials have been instructed to stay alert and implement necessary measures to mitigate any adverse situations during the forecast period. The weather system is expected to continue beyond April 4, with further updates to be provided in due course.
