The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced new school timings for government educational institutions, accompanied by a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at reinforcing discipline, academic consistency, and character development among students. The Elementary and Secondary Education Department announced on Monday that primary schools throughout the province will now operate from 7:30 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. under the updated schedule.
In a significant development, the department has made it compulsory for all schools to incorporate structured moral and character-building exercises into their daily morning assemblies. This initiative is intended to foster ethical values, boost students’ confidence, and encourage positive behavior.
Under the new framework, students will deliver speeches on designated topics three days each week, while skits and practical demonstrations will be conducted on the remaining days. This balanced approach is designed to develop both communication skills and a practical understanding of moral principles.
Meanwhile, to promote creativity and literary engagement, schools have been directed to organize a weekly “Bazm-i-Adab” on the final working day of each week. This event will offer students a platform to display their talents in writing, speech, and performance. Following the Bazm-i-Adab session, the last three periods of the day will be reserved for staff meetings and the completion of official duties and record-keeping.
Addressing challenges such as teacher shortages and extended absences, the department has instructed head teachers and subject specialists to take over classes when necessary. This measure aims to prevent interruptions in the learning process and ensure academic continuity.
Furthermore, all District Education Officers (DEOs) have been tasked with enforcing the new timetable and guidelines rigorously across all government schools in the province. These reforms represent the KP government’s broader strategy to enhance educational quality by integrating academic instruction with character-building activities, promoting a more holistic development of students.
