Peter Alexander Ends 22-Year Tenure at NBC News to Focus on Family

Peter Alexander has concluded his remarkable career at NBC News after nearly 22 years of dedicated service. The 49-year-old journalist announced his departure on March 28, revealing that his decision was driven by personal considerations, particularly the desire to spend more time with his children. Alexander highlighted the significant amount of time he has spent away from home, noting that in the past seven months alone, he was absent for over 80 nights, and more than 200 Friday evenings over the last seven years.

In his statement, Alexander expressed the importance of reconnecting with his family during a critical period in his daughters’ lives. He emphasized the fleeting nature of childhood and the need to establish a healthier balance between his demanding career and personal responsibilities. “In this limited window before my daughters lose interest in hanging out with me,” he remarked, “I’m eager to carve out a better balance between my personal and professional lives.”

Peter Alexander shares two daughters, Ava and Emma, with his wife, Alison Starling, and his decision to step away from NBC News also meant relinquishing his role as co-host of the popular Saturday TODAY show. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter at NBC, where he built a respected reputation as a news anchor and correspondent.

Alexander’s exit reflects a broader conversation within the media industry about work-life balance, especially for professionals with demanding schedules and extensive travel commitments. His choice underscores the challenges faced by journalists who strive to maintain family connections while managing high-profile careers.
