Two Israeli airstrikes targeted police checkpoints in the southern Gaza Strip, killing at least six Palestinians, including a child, local health officials. The attacks struck two Hamas-led police checkpoints in Khan Younis, resulting in the deaths of three policemen and three civilians, among them a young girl. Four others were wounded in the strikes.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has not issued an immediate response regarding the recent attacks. Since the ceasefire with Hamas took effect in November, over 680 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, local health authorities report. The broader conflict, which began in October 2023, has claimed more than 72,000 lives.
In a significant development, Israel is also engaged in a war alongside the United States against Iran and has launched a new campaign against Hezbollah, including incursions into southern Lebanon. Despite the ceasefire, violence in Gaza continues, exacerbated by Israel’s ongoing conflict with Iran.
Health officials in Gaza note that at least 50 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the escalation of the Iran conflict one month ago, underscoring the persistent instability in the region.
