In their second Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 encounter at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, Quetta Gladiators managed a competitive total of 174/8 against Hyderabad Kingsmen, thanks to composed performances by Shamyl Hussain and Hassan Nawaz.

After winning the toss, Quetta Gladiators opted to bat first and began positively with openers captain Saud and Shamyl putting on quick runs. However, Hyderabad’s Riley Meredith struck on the last ball of the second over, dismissing Saud for a run-a-ball four, giving Hyderabad an early upper hand as Quetta slipped to 21/1.

Meredith continued his impact by removing Rilee Rossouw for a five-ball duck in the fourth over, adding to Quetta’s early struggles. At this point, Shamyl Hussain and Hassan Nawaz took charge, stabilizing the innings with a vital 50-run partnership that helped the Gladiators regain momentum.

Shamyl, in excellent form, scored 54 runs off 41 deliveries, including three fours and three sixes, marking his second consecutive fifty in PSL 11 before Meredith ended the partnership. Hassan Nawaz then anchored the innings, reaching his fourth PSL half-century, while Khawaja Nafay supported him at the crease.

The momentum shifted again in the 15th over when Maheesh Theekshana claimed two quick wickets, dismissing Nafay for six and wicketkeeper-batsman Ben McDermott for a duck. In the closing overs, Tom Curran accelerated the scoring with boundaries, pushing Quetta beyond the 150-run mark.

Akif Javed finished the innings strongly by taking two wickets in the last over, removing Curran for 31 off 18 balls and Alzarri Joseph for a duck. Abrar Ahmed remained unbeaten on nine runs from three balls, striking consecutive fours, while Ahmed Daniyal contributed six runs off eight deliveries, helping Quetta Gladiators close at 174/8.
