Trump Labels Saudi Crown Prince ‘Warrior’ After Derogatory Remark

US President Donald Trump delivered a speech in Miami on Saturday that sparked immediate attention due to his controversial remarks about Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). Initially, Trump used a derogatory phrase, claiming the crown prince had “never thought he’d be kissing my ass” and had underestimated him as “just another American president.”

The blunt language elicited a mix of gasps and laughter from the audience, highlighting a notable shift in US policy toward Gulf states. However, Trump swiftly changed his tone, describing MBS as a “fantastic man” and repeatedly praising him as a “warrior.” He credited the crown prince for supporting the US during the Trump-Netanyahu campaign against Iran.

Trump also shared a personal anecdote about holding hands with MBS and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, interpreting the gesture as a sign of respect and acknowledgment of American strength under his leadership. This moment underscored the complex dynamics of US alliances in the region.

Experts have noted the contradictory nature of Trump’s speech, which combined frustration with appreciation for the Gulf allies’ respect, especially after NATO partners declined to assist in efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz. Trump recounted how MBS had once called the US a “dead country” but now viewed it as “the hottest country anywhere in the world.”

Analysts suggest that Trump’s shifting stance is a deliberate rhetorical strategy, showcasing his ability to adapt his tone to suit different contexts. His provocative and unpredictable style ensures he dominates media coverage. By the end of the speech, the focus had moved from the initial crude comment to the surprising praise of MBS as a “warrior.”
