Government Launches Mobile App for Subsidized Petrol Quota to Motorcyclists

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, the government has introduced a mobile application aimed at providing subsidized petrol to motorcyclists and rickshaw owners. This initiative offers a monthly quota of 20 litres of fuel to support low-income citizens affected by the ongoing energy crisis caused by regional geopolitical tensions.

The federal government has finalized this plan to deliver fuel relief specifically to motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers. To ensure transparency and efficient distribution, the Ministry of Information Technology has developed a dedicated mobile app, which is currently in the testing phase.

As part of the program, tracking devices will be installed at 12,000 petrol stations, along with specialized nozzles designed to guarantee access to cheaper fuel for the targeted low-income groups. Citizens seeking to benefit from this scheme must download the app and register by providing their CNIC and the registration numbers of their motorcycles or rickshaws.

The system will automatically allocate fuel quotas based on individual requirements and availability. Authorities emphasized that the financial impact of rising international oil prices will be borne by high-volume consumers, while protecting economically vulnerable groups through this digital subsidy.

Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing about potentially extending the scheme to include vehicles with engine capacities up to 800cc, although no final decision has been reached yet.
