Mel Schilling, the well-known expert from Married at First Sight, has died at the age of 54 following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Her passing on March 24 was confirmed by her husband, Gareth Brisbane, who shared a heartfelt tribute reflecting her strength and love even in her final moments.

Brisbane revealed that despite her illness taking away her ability to speak, Schilling summoned the strength to whisper a message for him and their daughter, Madison. “Even then, her only thought was for us,” he said.

Schilling first disclosed her cancer diagnosis in December 2023, revealing in March 2026 that her condition had become terminal. She had undergone surgery earlier in 2024 to remove a tumour described as “the size of a lemon,” initially receiving hopeful news. However, subsequent scans revealed small nodules on her lungs, leading to further treatment.

Over the course of two years, Schilling endured 16 rounds of chemotherapy. By December 2025, doctors informed her that no further treatment options remained. Despite this, she continued her work on Married at First Sight, showing remarkable resilience and dedication to both her career and family.

Brisbane praised her unwavering spirit, saying, “This is a woman who became a new mum and a TV star at 42 and excelled at both. She showed courage, grace and compassion every single day.” Schilling was a prominent figure on Married at First Sight Australia from 2019 to 2025 and also appeared on the UK version between 2021 and 2025, becoming one of the franchise’s most recognizable personalities.

Tributes have poured in since her passing. Co-star Charlene Douglas expressed her heartbreak and gratitude for the time they shared during Schilling’s final days. “Mel’s love for life, her humour and her energy will stay with me forever,” Douglas wrote. “What I wouldn’t give to be dancing with you again.”

Mel Schilling leaves behind her husband Gareth and their 10-year-old daughter, Madison, who will carry forward her legacy of strength and love.
