The Haryana police have launched a rigorous crackdown on the Haryanvi rapper Badshah’s contentious song titled ‘Tateeree’, following widespread public criticism and multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against the track. This decisive action comes after the song, which debuted on March 1, 2026, sparked significant controversy due to its allegedly inappropriate and offensive portrayal of women and minors.
In an effort to curb the song’s online presence, authorities have successfully removed a total of 857 digital links associated with ‘Tateeree’. This extensive removal includes 154 videos hosted on YouTube and 703 reels shared on Instagram, reflecting the state’s commitment to controlling the spread of content deemed harmful to societal values. The move highlights the growing vigilance of law enforcement agencies in monitoring digital platforms for material that may violate community standards.
The uproar surrounding ‘Tateeree’ intensified after the Haryana State Commission for Women publicly condemned the song, labeling it vulgar and degrading. The commission went a step further by demanding the arrest of Badshah, citing his failure to respond to multiple court summons related to the case. This development underscores the increasing pressure on artists and content creators to adhere to ethical guidelines, especially when their work reaches a wide and diverse audience.
Haryana’s Director General of Police, Ajay Singhal, reiterated the state’s firm stance against any content that disrespects the dignity of women and minors. He stressed that social media and other digital platforms would be closely monitored to prevent the dissemination of such material. “Our zero-tolerance policy is clear: content that undermines societal values will not be tolerated, and we will take all necessary steps to enforce this,” he affirmed.
Adding to this, Panchkula Commissioner and Additional Director General of Police Shibash Kabiraj warned that individuals who repeatedly violate these norms could face stringent legal repercussions. He also mentioned that the authorities have the power to block or restrict access to social media pages that continue to host objectionable content, signaling a tougher regulatory environment for digital creators and influencers.
‘Tateeree’ is a Haryanvi hip-hop number penned by Badshah himself and directed by Mahi Sandhu and Joban Sandhu. The track features performances by Badshah alongside Simran Jaglan, blending regional musical styles with contemporary hip-hop elements. However, the song’s provocative lyrics and themes have overshadowed its artistic aspects, leading to the ongoing legal and social backlash.
The police action was triggered by an FIR lodged at the Cyber Police Station in Sector-20, Panchkula, which set the wheels in motion for this extensive digital clampdown. This case exemplifies the challenges faced by law enforcement in balancing freedom of expression with the need to protect vulnerable groups from harmful content in the digital age.
