ISLAMABAD: In a move aimed at easing the festive preparations for millions of households, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has unveiled a special gas supply timetable tailored for the upcoming Eid ul Fitr celebrations. This announcement comes as part of the company’s efforts to balance consumer needs with operational constraints during a period marked by heightened demand for energy resources.
The company has assured that gas will be accessible to consumers on Chand Raat, the night preceding Eid, a crucial time when families traditionally engage in extensive cooking and other preparations. This provision is intended to ensure that the festivities begin smoothly without any interruptions in gas availability. Furthermore, SSGC has confirmed that gas supply will be maintained throughout all three days of Eid, allowing households to carry on with their celebrations without facing energy shortages.
However, to manage the overall load on the system and maintain stability, the utility has announced a daily suspension of gas supply from midnight (12:00am) to 6:00am during the Eid holidays. This measure is part of a broader load management strategy designed to prevent outages and ensure equitable distribution of gas among both domestic and commercial users. Despite these nightly pauses, the company emphasized that the supply during the daytime and evening hours will remain consistent and reliable.
the detailed schedule, uninterrupted gas flow will be available starting from Chand Raat and will continue until midnight leading into the first day of Eid. On the subsequent second and third days, gas will be supplied from 6:00am until midnight, providing consumers with ample time to meet their cooking and heating requirements throughout the day. SSGC reiterated its commitment to supporting customers during this festive period while simultaneously safeguarding the integrity of the gas distribution network amid peak demand challenges.
In a related development within the energy sector, Mari Energies Limited has announced a significant discovery of gas and condensate at its Shams-1 exploratory well situated in the Mari Development and Production Lease (D&PL) area of Ghotki district, Sindh. The company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange that drilling operations commenced on January 30, 2026, reaching a depth of 3,075 metres targeting the Lower Goru-B sands, which are known exploratory horizons in the region.
Testing of the Shams-1 well revealed promising results, with gas production measured at an impressive rate of 47.98 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). In addition, the well yielded 64 barrels per day of condensate, a valuable byproduct. The test was conducted at a choke size of 64/64 inches, and a stabilized wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2,404 psig was recorded, indicating strong reservoir performance. Mari Energies operates the Mari D&PL with a 100% working interest, underscoring its leading role in exploration and production activities in the area.
These developments highlight ongoing efforts to enhance Pakistan’s energy security through both efficient management of existing resources and exploration of new reserves. As Eid approaches, consumers can expect a carefully managed gas supply that balances festive needs with operational realities, while the energy sector continues to make strides in expanding the country’s hydrocarbon base.
