Shawwal Crescent Reported in Peshawar; Eid ul Fitr Date Awaits Final Confirmation

In Peshawar, a significant development has emerged regarding the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, which could potentially bring forward the celebration of Eid ul Fitr. A resident named Imranuddin has come forward claiming to have observed the new moon, an announcement that has naturally stirred interest among the local community eager to mark the end of Ramadan. His report, which includes the presence of his two children as witnesses, has prompted the zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, responsible for moon sighting verifications across various regions, questioned Imranuddin in detail to ascertain the authenticity of his observation. His testimony was formally documented after careful examination, reflecting the committee’s commitment to ensuring that any decision about the lunar calendar is based on credible and verifiable evidence. This process is crucial because the sighting of the Shawwal moon determines the exact date for Eid ul Fitr, a festival celebrated by millions across Pakistan and the Muslim world.

So far, the committee has received two separate testimonies from Peshawar regarding the moon sighting. However, officials have expressed caution, noting that the children accompanying Imranuddin are quite young, which means their statements might require additional verification to confirm their reliability. This highlights the meticulous approach taken by the committee, as they weigh all factors before making any public announcements that affect the religious calendar.

Following the collection of local testimonies, the zonal committee has forwarded the gathered evidence to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. This central body holds the authority to make the final determination on the sighting of the Shawwal moon after reviewing reports from across the country. The central committee’s decision will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of all submitted testimonies, including those from other regions, to ensure a unified and accurate declaration.

Authorities have emphasized that the final confirmation of Eid ul Fitr’s date hinges on the receipt of more credible moon sighting reports and their subsequent verification at the national level. This cautious and systematic approach is designed to maintain the integrity of the Islamic calendar and to avoid any confusion among the public. As the nation awaits the official announcement, communities remain hopeful and attentive to further updates from the Ruet-e-Hilal committees.
