Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Directs Enhanced Security Measures at Markets and Bus Stands Ahead of Eid

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and security of citizens during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr festivities by mandating comprehensive security arrangements across key public areas. With the festive season approaching, she emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance at bus stands, commercial centres, and bustling markets, which typically see a surge in activity as people prepare for the celebrations.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister issued clear instructions to deploy additional security personnel in markets specifically on Chand Raat, the night before Eid, when crowds tend to gather in large numbers. Recognizing the increased risk of harassment during such crowded occasions, she stressed the deployment of women police squads to patrol these areas actively. This move aims to create a safer environment for women and children, ensuring they can shop and celebrate without fear or discomfort.

Maryam Nawaz further underscored the need for modern surveillance tools to bolster security efforts. She directed authorities to utilize drone cameras and night vision binoculars to monitor markets and bazaars effectively, especially during peak hours. These technological aids are expected to enhance real-time monitoring and quick response capabilities, helping law enforcement prevent any untoward incidents before they escalate.

In addition to market security, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining strict control over traffic and public safety on Chand Raat. She called for rigorous patrolling on roads to curb dangerous stunts such as one-wheeling, which pose significant risks to pedestrians and other motorists. Furthermore, she ordered increased security presence around ATMs and banks, locations that often become vulnerable during busy festive periods due to the high volume of cash withdrawals and transactions.

To ensure transparency and protect commuters, Maryam Nawaz also instructed continuous monitoring of police and transport officials at van and bus stands. She emphasized the need for clear display of fixed fares on the windscreens of buses and vans to prevent exploitation of passengers during the holiday rush. These measures collectively aim to provide a secure and orderly environment for all citizens celebrating Eid across Punjab.
