Deadly Gunfight in Ghotki’s Katcha Area Claims Five Lives Amid Clan Feud

GHOTKI: A violent confrontation erupted in the katcha area of Ghotki district on Thursday, resulting in the tragic deaths of five individuals. The deadly exchange of gunfire took place amid an ongoing and bitter rivalry between the Jagirani and Lolai clans, who have long been embroiled in a fierce feud. The incident has further intensified the already volatile situation in this remote riverine region.

Authorities confirmed that the victims of the shootout were identified as Rahib Lolai, Makoro Lolai, Mehar Lolai, along with Noor and Hidayat Jageerani. The clash occurred in the Katcho Bandi locality, where armed groups from both sides opened fire on each other, escalating the conflict to a deadly level. Despite the loss of life, hostilities have not yet ceased, with sporadic gunfire continuing to echo through the area, raising fears of additional casualties.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, police reinforcements from the Katcho Bandi police station have been dispatched to the scene. Their primary objective is to contain the violence and prevent further bloodshed. However, the challenging terrain and the nature of the katcha area, characterized by dense riverine forests, make law enforcement efforts particularly difficult. This geographic isolation has historically provided a safe haven for armed groups and fugitives.

The lawlessness in Ghotki and other parts of upper Sindh is a long-standing issue, largely attributed to the proximity of these districts to the katcha belt. This region, stretching along the banks of the Indus River, is notorious for harboring criminal gangs involved in kidnappings, extortion, and other violent crimes. These gangs often operate under the protection of powerful tribal leaders and influential figures, complicating efforts to restore peace and order.

Moreover, the riverine forests in Sindh and the adjoining southern areas of Punjab have historically been difficult for police and security forces to access. These areas are often described as ‘no-go zones’ due to their dense foliage and the presence of hostile elements. This environment allows bandit gangs to evade capture and continue their illicit activities with relative impunity, posing a persistent threat to the safety and stability of the surrounding communities.

The recent outbreak of violence in Ghotki’s katcha area underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of such conflicts. Without sustained law enforcement presence and community engagement, these deadly feuds are likely to continue, further destabilizing the region and endangering innocent lives.
