The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a counterfeit website that is impersonating its legitimate visa portal. This fraudulent platform is designed to deceive users into divulging sensitive personal information and making unauthorized payments. Nadra emphasized that this fake site is not connected to the organisation in any way and urged citizens to exercise caution when accessing online services.
The deceptive website in question can be found at https://www.visa.nadragov.online, a URL crafted to closely resemble Nadra’s authentic visa portal. However, the authority clarified that the only genuine visa-related website operated by Nadra is https://visa.nadra.gov.pk. This official portal is the sole platform through which citizens should apply for visas or access related services. Nadra reminded users to always verify that the website address ends with the government domain suffix “.gov.pk” to ensure authenticity and avoid falling victim to scams.
In addition to Nadra’s alert, the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has also taken significant steps to combat these fraudulent activities. Over the past month, NCERT successfully identified and blocked nine fake websites that were designed to mimic Nadra’s online services. These sites were reportedly attempting to harvest personal data from unsuspecting users, posing a serious threat to citizens’ privacy and security.
NCERT’s advisory further cautions the public against sharing any personal information without first confirming the legitimacy of the website or communication channel. It also warns against clicking on suspicious links received via emails or SMS messages, which are common tactics used by cybercriminals to lure victims into their traps. Both Nadra and NCERT continue to collaborate closely, monitoring the digital landscape to swiftly identify and neutralize any misleading or malicious cyber activities targeting Pakistani citizens.
This joint effort underscores the growing importance of cybersecurity awareness in an era where online fraud is becoming increasingly sophisticated. Authorities are urging everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious websites or communications to help protect the public from identity theft and financial loss. By staying informed and cautious, citizens can safeguard their personal data and contribute to a safer digital environment.
