In a significant step towards sustainable energy development, Pakistan and Germany have finalized a grant agreement valued at €18 million. This financial support is specifically aimed at fostering hydropower and other renewable energy initiatives in Pakistan’s northern territories, regions known for their abundant water resources and untapped clean energy potential.
The agreement was officially signed by Muhammad Humair Karim, the Secretary of Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division, alongside Sebastian Jacobi, the Country Director of KfW, the German government-owned development bank. This collaboration marks a continuation of the longstanding partnership between the two countries in promoting environmentally friendly energy solutions and sustainable development projects.
Under the terms of the agreement, KfW will extend grant assistance to the Government of Pakistan, focusing on harnessing the natural water resources of the northern areas to generate clean electricity. This initiative is expected to not only address the increasing energy demands of these regions but also contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions by promoting renewable energy sources over fossil fuels.
Officials involved in the project emphasize that the program will bring tangible benefits to local communities. During the signing ceremony, Muhammad Humair Karim expressed his gratitude towards the German government for its continued support.
