ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s automobile sector has experienced a remarkable upswing in both vehicle sales and production during the initial eight months of the fiscal year 2025–26. The industry witnessed a substantial increase of 45.53 percent in car sales and an even more impressive 52.31 percent rise in production compared to the same timeframe last year. This significant growth highlights a renewed momentum in economic activities and a boost in consumer confidence within the country’s automotive market.
The latest figures released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association (PAMA) reveal that a total of 97,900 cars were sold from July through February, marking a sharp increase from 67,267 units sold during the corresponding period in the previous year. Simultaneously, vehicle production surged to 104,652 units, up from 68,708 units recorded last year. These numbers underscore the automotive sector’s recovery, which is closely linked to improving macroeconomic conditions and government policies aimed at stabilizing the economy.
Experts attribute this robust performance to several key factors, including the government’s prudent economic management, easing inflationary pressures, and a relatively stable exchange rate environment. These elements have collectively helped restore consumer purchasing power, encouraging more buyers to invest in new vehicles. Furthermore, the availability of better financing options and the gradual revival of industrial activities have played a crucial role in stimulating demand for automobiles across various segments.
Delving into specific models, Honda emerged as a strong performer with its sales climbing by nearly 50 percent, from 10,265 units last year to 15,389 units this year. Toyota’s popular models, the Corolla and Yaris, combined to register an impressive 75.70 percent growth, reaching 23,900 units sold compared to 13,602 units previously. The Suzuki Swift also demonstrated remarkable growth, almost doubling its sales from 5,295 to 10,555 units, reflecting growing consumer preference for compact yet stylish vehicles. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s Elantra saw a steady rise in demand, with sales increasing to 1,743 units from 965 units, indicating a rising interest in mid-sized sedans among Pakistani buyers.
The small car segment continued to dominate, with Suzuki Alto maintaining its position as the country’s best-selling model. Sales of the Alto surged to 36,694 units from 28,194 units, showcasing sustained demand for affordable and fuel-efficient vehicles. Suzuki Cultus also saw a healthy increase in sales, rising to 3,423 units from 1,887 units. Additionally, the Suzuki Every experienced a dramatic jump of 250.03 percent in sales, climbing from 1,577 units to 5,520 units, driven largely by heightened demand in the light commercial and small transport vehicle categories.
Notably, the shift towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation options is beginning to take shape in Pakistan’s automotive landscape. The newly introduced Dewan Honri-VE electric vehicle recorded sales of 210 units during the eight-month period, signaling early but promising adoption of electric mobility. On the production front, Honda’s output increased by 57.77 percent, rising from 10,065 units to 15,880 units. Toyota Corolla and Yaris production also saw a significant boost of 76.85 percent, reaching 24,475 units. Similarly, Suzuki Swift’s manufacturing numbers climbed by 96.46 percent to 10,684 units, while Hyundai Elantra production rose to 2,142 units from 1,135 units.
Production of Suzuki Cultus increased to 3,125 units from 1,880 units, and Suzuki Alto’s manufacturing surged to 43,798 units from 28,334 units, reflecting the strong market demand for these models. Although Suzuki Every’s production growth was more modest at 6.37 percent, reaching 3,905 units, it still contributed to the overall positive trend. Moreover, the production of Dewan Honri-VE electric vehicles totaled 208 units during this period, highlighting the gradual but steady entry of electric vehicles into Pakistan’s automotive manufacturing sector.
Industry analysts remain optimistic about the future trajectory of Pakistan’s automobile market. They emphasize that sustained policy consistency, enhanced financing facilities, and continued economic stability will be critical in maintaining this growth momentum. Such developments are expected to not only strengthen the country’s manufacturing base but also generate significant employment opportunities in the automotive sector in the months ahead, contributing positively to Pakistan’s broader economic landscape.
