ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has firmly dismissed recent speculation about an impending rise in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices, clarifying that no fresh notification regarding a price increase has been issued. The authority emphasized that LPG rates are officially announced only once a month, with any changes taking effect from the first day of the new month, following a strict pricing formula designed to ensure transparency and fairness.
In a statement, an OGRA spokesperson urged consumers to rely solely on the officially published LPG prices and remain vigilant against unauthorized price hikes in the market. The spokesperson highlighted that the notified price remains valid until the next official update, and any deviation by retailers constitutes a violation of regulatory guidelines. To protect consumer rights, the public was encouraged to report any instances of overcharging or price manipulation directly to local district authorities, who are empowered to take swift action to enforce compliance with the official rates.
OGRA reiterated its ongoing commitment to safeguarding consumer interests by maintaining transparency and strict oversight of the LPG market nationwide. This assurance comes amid growing concerns over fluctuating retail prices in some regions, despite the regulatory body’s efforts to stabilize the sector. The authority’s vigilance is part of a broader strategy to ensure that LPG remains accessible and affordable for households and businesses across Pakistan.
Meanwhile, supply-side developments have been positive, with Pakistan currently holding sufficient LPG reserves to meet domestic demand. Recent activity at Port Qasim in Karachi has seen the arrival of multiple LPG shipments, significantly bolstering the country’s fuel inventory. Over the past few days, four LPG vessels have docked at the port, each carrying substantial quantities of liquefied petroleum gas to reinforce the supply chain.
Among these shipments, one vessel delivered approximately 11,000 metric tonnes of LPG, while two others, each loaded with around 12,000 metric tonnes, had already begun offloading their cargo earlier. Additionally, a large tanker transporting nearly 35,000 metric tonnes of LPG has also arrived, further enhancing the stockpile. These arrivals are expected to ease supply constraints and contribute to market stability in the near term.
Despite the ample availability of LPG, some traders have reportedly increased retail prices, attributing these hikes to fluctuations in international crude oil markets. The LPG Distributors Association of Pakistan has addressed these concerns, with its chairman, Irfan Khokhar, affirming that the country’s LPG reserves are currently sufficient and there is no immediate shortage. Khokhar expressed confidence that as supply continues to improve with incoming shipments, retail prices are likely to come down in the coming days, benefiting consumers nationwide.
In summary, while rumors of an LPG price increase have caused some unease, official sources confirm that the current rates remain unchanged and the market is well-supplied. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent unjustified price surges and ensure that the LPG supply chain operates smoothly, providing relief to consumers during these challenging economic times.
