In a heartfelt statement delivered in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, conveyed deep apprehension regarding her brother’s current health status. She revealed that for over five months, since October 16, neither family members nor legal representatives have been permitted to meet with Imran Khan. This prolonged isolation has left the family in a state of distress, as no clear reasons have been provided by the authorities for these stringent restrictions.
Elaborating on the situation, Aleema Khan emphasized the lack of transparency surrounding Imran Khan’s medical condition, particularly focusing on his deteriorating eye health. She expressed frustration that despite repeated concerns, the family remains uninformed about the specifics of his treatment or prognosis. Medical professionals have reportedly indicated that the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) does not possess the necessary facilities to adequately address his eye ailment, raising fears about the potential worsening of his condition.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, Aleema Khan demanded that Imran Khan’s medical care be conducted in the presence of his close family members and his personal physician. She questioned the rationale behind the delay in providing proper treatment, warning that neglect could lead to irreversible damage, including the risk of losing sight in his second eye. While the family is willing to accept certain limitations on visitations, Aleema stressed that medical care must not be compromised under any circumstances.
In addition to addressing health concerns, Aleema Khan firmly rejected rumors suggesting a rift between the PTI leadership and the family. She specifically dismissed claims linking Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi with the PTI leadership’s stance on Imran Khan’s situation. Aleema urged those who have associated themselves with Mohsin Naqvi to clarify their positions independently, emphasizing that the authorities appear more interested in diverting public attention through conflicting narratives rather than facilitating the release or proper care of the PTI founder.
Furthermore, Aleema Khan refuted allegations made by Mohsin Naqvi that there is discord between the PTI leadership and Imran Khan’s family. She described such assertions as baseless and misleading, reinforcing the family’s united front in demanding urgent medical intervention. The sister of the former prime minister concluded by reiterating the non-negotiable importance of ensuring Imran Khan receives appropriate treatment, underscoring the family’s unwavering commitment to his health and well-being.
